Practical notes on advertising and digital marketing
Articles and working notes on paid media, search, social, and measurement — written for business owners and marketing managers in Hungary who want a clear view rather than a sales pitch.
What this section is for
This section collects articles and working notes on the topics we deal with daily: paid media, search, social, brand strategy, and measurement. They are written for business owners and marketing managers in Hungary who want a clear view rather than a sales pitch.
New pieces are added as the market shifts and as questions from clients repeat. If a question keeps coming back in onboarding calls, it usually belongs here first — before it becomes a proposal line.

What services should a modern advertising agency in Hungary offer?
Most visible agencies in Hungary now bundle paid media, SEO, social media marketing, branding, and web or landing-page work. The pure media-buying model has largely faded, partly because clients expect the agency to connect creative and performance into one workflow.
The practical question for a buyer is not how long the service list is, but whether the agency can explain how the pieces connect. An agency that treats SEO and paid search as unrelated activities will produce conflicting keyword strategies. One that plans them together will not.
When you read a service page, look for the seams. Does the same team plan the search terms that appear in both the paid and organic lists? Does the landing page follow the ad promise, or does it restart the pitch? Those two questions separate a bundle from a stack of invoices.
Where the seams show
Search, social and web work should share one keyword and message map. If each discipline keeps its own list, the same prospect gets three different promises in one week.
Comparing the three
Comparing PPC, SEO, and social agencies
These three are often sold separately, and comparing them is difficult because they behave differently over time. Paid media produces data quickly and stops the moment you stop paying. SEO compounds slowly and then holds. Social sits in between and depends heavily on whether the audience is already there.
A sensible sequence for many Hungarian businesses is to fix tracking first, use paid media to find out which messages convert, and then invest in SEO and content around the messages that proved themselves. Doing it in the reverse order is common and usually more expensive.
What makes a Budapest agency different from a regional one?
Budapest has the largest concentration of agencies and the widest range of specialisms. Regional agencies, including those in Győr, Mátészalka, and other cities, often compete on responsiveness, local knowledge, and lower overhead rather than on scale.
The difference matters less than it used to. Remote work is normal, and clients outside the capital are not limited to local suppliers. What still matters is whether the team understands your specific market: the searches people in your region use, the competitors nearby, and the industries that dominate the area.
A practical check: ask an agency to name three competitors you did not mention. If they cannot, the local knowledge claim is decoration.
How important are measurable results and reporting?
Very, and this is where buyers most often get disappointed. Activity reports, which show impressions and engagement without connecting to revenue, are common. They are easy to produce and tell you little.
A useful report answers what was spent, what it produced, and what changes next. If an agency cannot describe its reporting format before you sign, that is worth noticing. It usually means the format is designed for the agency's convenience rather than yours.
Ask for a sample report with the client name removed. Most teams that report well already keep one on hand.
Industries Hungarian agencies most often specialize in
Local market listings show a strong presence of agencies serving e-commerce, professional services, real estate, healthcare, and industrial B2B. The Győr region adds manufacturing, logistics, and recruitment advertising because of its industrial base.
Specialization matters more in some sectors than others. Regulated industries like healthcare and finance need copy that survives compliance review, and industrial B2B needs an understanding of long sales cycles. A generalist agency can work in these sectors, but the learning curve is paid for out of your budget.
E-commerce
Feed quality, product pages and paid shopping traffic decide most of the outcome. Small feed errors cost more than small creative errors.
Professional services
Fewer, higher-value enquiries. Search intent is narrow, so keyword research matters more than reach.
Real estate
Local geography drives the targeting. City-level campaigns rarely match street-level buyer behaviour.
Healthcare
Advertising rules shape the copy before the copy shapes the campaign. Compliance review belongs in the plan, not after the launch.
Industrial B2B
Long sales cycles mean lead quality beats lead volume. Attribution windows need to stretch beyond the campaign month.
Manufacturing and logistics
Strong in the Győr region. Recruitment advertising often runs alongside product and service promotion.
Branding or performance: how to decide
If your ads convert but customers do not remember who you are, brand work is the gap. If your positioning is clear but enquiries are flat, the gap is performance and conversion work.
In practice, most companies need both eventually. The useful question is sequence. Fixing measurement and conversion first makes every later branding investment easier to evaluate, because you can see what changed.
A second piece of the same advice: brand work done without measurement is hard to defend in a budget meeting, and performance work done without a clear position tends to plateau once the easy audiences are exhausted.
Why "up to date" is a real buying criterion
Client commentary in agency directories often highlights whether a team stays current with platform changes. That is not a vague compliment. Ad platforms change their rules, formats, and targeting options regularly, and an account managed on last year's assumptions quietly loses efficiency.
Staying current is mostly unglamorous work: reading platform documentation, testing new formats early, and retiring what no longer performs. It is a habit rather than a credential, and it shows up in the results long before it shows up in a pitch.
What a current team does
- Reads platform documentation when a format or policy changes, not months later.
- Tests new placements early on a small budget before moving spend.
- Retires what stopped performing instead of letting it run for the year.
- Explains what changed in the account, in plain language, in the report.
What a new agency has to prove in Hungary
Several agencies have entered the Hungarian market recently, including brand-focused firms founded in the last few years. New agencies face a credibility problem: no long client list, no case history, and no track record to point at.
The ones that succeed tend to prove capability through specificity. A narrow specialism, a clear method, and a small number of well-documented projects do more for trust than a broad service list. For buyers, a newer agency with a precise offer is often a better bet than an established one that cannot explain its approach.
If you are evaluating a young team, ask what they would refuse. A clear answer to that question is worth more than a long portfolio.
How to read a case study
Case studies vary widely in usefulness. The informative ones state the situation, the constraint, what was changed, and what resulted. The weak ones list channels and adjectives.
When a case study gives no numbers, that is not automatically a problem, since client data is often confidential. But it should describe the constraint clearly. A project with no stated constraint usually means either there was none, or the agency has not thought about why the work succeeded.
See how we document our own projects if you want a reference for the format we use.
The situation
What the business looked like before anyone touched the account.
The constraint
Budget, seasonality, compliance, or a small audience — named, not implied.
What was changed
The specific decisions, so you can judge whether they apply to you.
What resulted
Outcomes described honestly, including the parts that stayed flat.
Choosing an agency without wasting a quarter
The most expensive mistake in agency selection is a slow start. Months pass in onboarding, access requests, and planning, and the first real data arrives a quarter after the decision.
You can reduce that risk before signing. Ask what happens in the first two weeks, who does the work, and what the reporting will look like. Agencies with a clear answer will not mind the questions. Ones that answer vaguely are telling you something useful about how the engagement will run.
Before you sign
What happens in the first two weeks?
A clear answer names the tracking setup, the access needed, and the first test. A vague one names a kickoff meeting.
Before you sign
Who actually does the work?
Ask for the people who will run the account, not the people in the pitch. If they change after signing, so will the results.
Before you sign
What will the report look like?
Ask to see the template. If none exists yet, the first month will be spent inventing it on your budget.
Questions we get asked before a first call
Short answers to the things that come up most often when a Hungarian business is deciding whether to bring in an agency.
Do you work with businesses outside Győr?
Yes. We work with clients across Hungary, and most of the engagement runs remotely with calls and shared documents. Being based in Győr means we understand the industrial and logistics market in this region particularly well, but it does not limit who we can work with.
Can you start with only paid media and add the rest later?
Often that is the right way to start, because paid media produces usable data quickly. What matters is that the tracking is set up properly first, so the results from that first phase can guide what you invest in next. Starting paid media on broken measurement usually means paying twice for the same lesson.
How long before we see anything useful?
Paid campaigns usually produce readable data within the first weeks, once tracking is verified. SEO and content work on a longer horizon because they depend on search engines re-evaluating the pages. We would rather tell you that up front than set an expectation we cannot hold to.
What do you need from us to get started?
Access to your ad accounts, analytics, and website, plus someone on your side who can approve copy and budget decisions. The faster those three things arrive, the faster the first useful report does.
Bring us the question you keep asking
If a topic here matches something you are weighing up, we are happy to talk it through without a pitch attached. Send over your situation and we will tell you what we would look at first.
